Monolithic Undertow

Monolithic Undertow by Harry Sword

I listened to author Harry Sword read (click here for audiobook version) this deep dive into the wonders of the drone and its adjacent world of sound-makers. Though this work had been on my "to be read" list for quite some time, I wasn't deeply confident at the outset that I could sustain my interest in the topic, which is focused largely, though not exclusively, on the drone and drone adjacent sound world. My initial hesitation was quickly pushed aside. I found Sword's focus engaging and illuminating in its sprawling yet detailed historical journey of drone-makers. I learned of work, recorded and unrecorded, by practitioners, bands, artists, some known and unknown, and came away with a deeper appreciation and understanding of both the creations and the creators.
